Issue Three of Everyday Northcote out now
The third issue of Everyday Northcote, published by HLC in partnership with Housing New Zealand and Panuku Development Auckland, comes at an exciting time for Northcote residents as construction at Northcote Development picks up pace.
The 43 standalone houses in Stage 1 are almost complete, with families due to move in soon. Construction is also starting shortly on 16 one-bedroom apartments for individuals or couples - an increasingly large portion of our demographic. Stage 2, which will create 470 new state, affordable and market homes, is now underway.
With more homes comes better amenity. The government announced last month that Onepoto Primary is getting a brand new $19.5m school. Construction will begin in 18 months time and the buildings will be designed for a roll increase from the current 71 to 950 students in a decade.
HLC and Panuku Development Auckland have been working with students from each of the three schools in the area to gather their input for the new Awataha Greenway. In May Helen Kerr, from Isthmus Group, led greenway Design Lab sessions with groups of around 30 students. The schools’ edge portion of the greenway has the potential to become a ‘local learning landscape’, a place for students to learn in an outdoor classroom setting.
