Construction begins at Northcote Development
Builders have begun work constructing 59 new homes in Northcote, the first stage of the Northcote Development.
The sites for the new homes have been cleared over recent weeks, with as many elements as possible from the old state houses having been removed for recycling.
Hobsonville Land Company (HLC) Precinct Director Mark Fraser said construction has begun today with a goal of completing the first new homes in June, 2017.
HLC is undertaking the development on behalf of its parent company Housing New Zealand Corporation. All 59 homes in stage one will be social housing, replacing twenty state houses built in the 1950s and 1960s. The new homes will be a mixture of one-bedroom, two-bedroom, three-bedroom and four-bedroom homes, providing greater choice for tenants.
The Northcote Development was launched in September, 2016, and will provide 1000 to 1200 new homes near the Northcote town centre, including 400 social housing homes for Housing New Zealand - around 100 more than are there now. The remaining 600 to 800 new homes will be sold on the open market, including some in a more affordable price range.
